Foster Care

Myths | Frequently Asked Questions

Opening your heart and home to a child.

Foster families open up their hearts and their homes to children, offering stability, affection, consistency and nurturing. Foster Care provides a safe place for children to be cared for in times when a child cannot remain safely in their own home. Children are placed in Foster Care for different reasons. Sometimes their families cannot provide for their basic needs. Many children also face difficult experiences that threaten their essential well-being, including parental illness, a family crisis, parental substance abuse, abandonment, abuse or neglect. A foster family positively influences a child’s life by providing nurturing and guidance and seeing that all of their physical and emotional needs are met. The foster family makes connections with the children that can last a lifetime.

U.P. KIDS Foster Care services include recruitment, licensing, training and support to foster families across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The goals of the services are to provide stable and loving care for these children until they can safely reunite with their families, or in some cases, a permanent adoptive home is found. Foster Care provides children with their essential needs and supports their continued growth and development.
